I grew up on a farm in Connecticut, when Connecticut had farms, where sleeping in was getting up after the sun, and you could put your hands in the Earth, smell the soil, and grow something other than grass in it.
I didn't know that a god named 'War,' in a land called Fovea in another reality, needed a champion, and that he'd contracted with the dying god Anubis to provide him with one, in return for enough power to put Ra on his throne again.
I didn't know that Anubis chose me, and for a total of eighteen years threw everything he could think of at me, to break me, to torment me, to forge me into this thing to be traded.
He cost me the love of my life and a college education. He cost me my career in the US Navy. He cost me my parents and friends, each one given up in offering, passed like a mile post, left behind to harden me into this instrument that War wanted. My failures became His successes, my anger that instrument's edge.
At the end of it all, after I passed all of the tests, leading a life left in a shambles, never knowing that I had been tested at all, Anubis appeared and tricked me into pledging my soul to him. That gave him the right to make the trade and give me to War who, by comparison, made Anubis seem like a pretty nice guy.
I'm Randy Morden - welcome to my world. A world where magic is real, technology the stuff of fantasy, and warriors with swords ride horses into battle, trying to stay one step ahead of their gods' will. I didn't ask for this life, but I promise you before anyone ever knocks me down again, I'm going to have their blood on my knuckles, because a man can only be pushed so far!

This is an epic with a new twist. I always enjoy something fresh in any genre. The story will grab you right away and keep you reading. The main characters develop throughout the novel and learn hard lessons. The know destruction and loss and experience triumph against impossible odds. You will fall in love with the main characters as they discover each other and the new world around them.
There are plots within plots and at times I had trouble understanding what was going on which is one reason for a 4 star rating. With many different factions in a Fovean world, you will learn about each race and their uniqueness. The other reason for a 4 star rating is then ending....I was shocked as it left me baffled about so very much. You will be headed for Robert Bradys next novel because you have to know what happens.
I am happy to recommend this fantasy epic to all readers of epics. KUDOS Mr. Brady on a tale well told

Indomitus Est Book One Of The Fovean Chronicles Robert W Brady Jr 9780979367908 Books Reviews
If you adore Heinlein, loved Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber series, or are one of the lucky few who read Piers Anthony's Phase series or his Bio of a Space Tyrant series, this is a must-read. This is true fantasy in its most classic, old-school form!
Also, as someone who hates getting a short book for the price of a standard novel, this was a deal. A big fat novel for a small price.
And for all of you who have felt slighted when trying to give self-published authors a chance, this is one author who won't let you down. Typos and grammar errors are few and far between - at about the level you see in the standard publishing industry. This story is well-written. The plot moves right along and the characters are fun and interesting. I'm so happy to see this level of writing in the world of self-publishing!
Can't wait to read the next in the series! Thanks for daring to publish so we can read!
This was a really good fantasy book with a great story and even better story. It has so much action and spell casting this is one series that I would recommend.
Indomitus Est follows the life of a man born as Randy Morden on Earth, yet better known as Rancor Mordetur in the land of Fovea. He is molded from youth by Anubis into a hard, suspicion, and vicious individual and traded to War in exchange for power. War in turn strands him on a foreign world where chemistry and mechanics are considered to be magic and true magic is commonplace. War informs Randy that he is to be His instrument. His mission, to succeed, while failure is unimaginable pain. All he is given to do so is a sharp sword of War, a very angry stallion from the Herd That Cannot be Tamed, and a knack for languages.
I really loved Indomitus Est for a few reasons. First of all, you get an enormous book for a paltry price and unlike many lengthy novels, Indomitus Est never bogs down with ponderous descriptions of insignificant places or philosophical discussions that you could care less about. Action is commonplace and continually escalated from small skirmishes to world-shaking battles. Another aspect of Indomitus Est that I really enjoyed was the flawed protagonist. He is not a paragon of good that saves bunnies and maidens alike. Nor is he an antihero and an embodiment of evil. He is a man, a modern man, but a man nonetheless with all the failings and merits of man. He can love with all his heart, yet hate with a passion to rival Gods. He is not an unbeatable swordsman, he cannot rain down fire upon his foes. Yet for all his disadvantages he still prevails and somehow avoids the wrath of War. Sure he is a bit cruel and sometimes insensitive, but who wouldn't be so after surviving countless failures resulting from the injustices of his old world (brought about by Anubis of course).
Indomitus Est is not a novel for the faint of heart. If you love action, intrigue and a large helping of War, then this is the novel for you.
This is not a type of book I would normally read but once I started I could not stop. Very intriguing, not in any way predictable.
Brady spins a very detailed and involved tale, taking the reader from a life in one world and dropping him unprepared in a thoroughly foreign and fleshed-out one. No particular goal, opponent, or conflict seemed to be the protagonist’s destination, and my initial impression was that his travels were a bit aimless. War was the opponent and director, but that god seemed mostly absent. When I adopted the idea that the purpose was the progression and not some ultimate destination, it became a much easier read. A knowledgeable man dropped into medieval times has great portential, and Brady has plenty of material before him with which to work.
I think the author has an interesting grasp of war, history and the human psyche. The book flows easily as a read and I think he should be an up and coming author. I could see His alt universe going into the 19th century technology, any book now which could be interesting combined with the magic.
REVIEW INDOMITUS EST BOOK ONE OF THE FOVEAN CHRONICLES by Robert W. Brady
An intriguing, metaphysically-framed, philosophical epic fantasy, with lots of heroics, adventure, and danger. Better yet, this is a thinking person's fantasy, one that bypasses the two-dimensional surface and delves in deep, into those multiple worlds and dimensions humans never see--well, not usually. Deep down there, also, are the Voids where forgotten or fallen gods go to disappear--such as Anubis, Lord of the Underworld, subject to Sun God Ra; until Ra found defeat from Jehovah.
INDOMITUS EST is Book One of the four-installment FOVEAN CHRONICLES.
